HHTF Insiders,
It's tax season, but who can worry about that with all the super-fresh Hip-Hop events? In Chicago this month comes Hip-Hop Live + Reel, featuring Hip-Hop theater artists The Suicide Kings, Yuri Lane, Reggie Watts and more. Reggie Watts also performs at Ars Nova here in New York, and the Future Aesthetic Cohort comes to NYC to select the Future Aesthetics grantees of 2008. On top of all that, everyone here is buzzing about The First Annual "Get Sprung on HHTF" Spring Benefit happening in May.
And if that isn't enough to distract you from deducting the sum of Lines 64 and 65 from Line 63, then check out what's happening from our community partners and friends: the Streb dancers awe us once again at S.L.A.M in Williamsburg, our friends at La Mama present Seoul's B-Alive! for three days only, the groundbreaking documentary Planet B-Boy extends its stay in New York and continues its fire trail across the U.S, Borough of Manhattan Community College hosts Latino Day for high school youth and Deep Lez is looking for performers in the Bay.
But if April 15 really got you buggin', at least take few moments to calculate your Earned Hip-Hop Education credit, go ahead and estimate high on your HHTF capital gains, and be sure to file jointly
with us.

NYC welcomes The Future Aesthetics Cohort
The Future Aesthetics Artist Regrant Program (FAAR) has been a huge success for HHTF, and this month, an official selection panel will convene in New York to determine the FAAR artists for 2008-2009. FAAR is a one-year pilot program dedicated to promoting emerging professional artists; with Future Aesthetics defined as art that is constantly evolving and challenging the ethos of traditional applications.
FAAR supports artists in a variety of geographic locations and disciplines including visual artists, poets, writers, playwrights, dancers, actors, and directors. As the administrator of this national program funded by the Ford Foundation and in conjunction with the Future Aesthetics Cohort (Global Action Project, La Pena Cultural Center, Miami Light Project, Youth Speaks, Hip Hop Theater Festival and Rennie Harris Puremovement), HHTF is proud to announce that 12 - 15 artists will we awarded individual grants up to $5000 to further their professional careers. A big thanks to the Cohort, all of the nominating organizations, and best wishes to all of the talented nominees!

Call for Artists
Calling all Bay Area performers. Deep Lez is looking for you: People willing to perform in The Deep Lez Potluck
and Performance Night as part of the National Queer Arts Festival 2008
(http://www.queerculturalcenter.org.)
The event is on Wednesday, June 18 starting at 7PM and the location is El Rio on Mission Street in San Francisco. The show aims to present performances from a broad base of artists that are, individually, redefining contemporary lesbian existence in an environment that may deem it as irrelevant or exclusive. We are seeking to find representations of lesbianism from performers who operate under the broad queer umbrella and are not afraid or ashamed to consciously bring it back to the (self aware) unified sisterhood of women loving women. It is a reflection on the connections between a diverse contemporary queer community and the radical lesbian feminism that took seed in the 1970's and was the midwife to recent theories on dispelling a gender binary and queer theory. Deep Lez is a resistance to a queer politic of 'reinventing the wheel' and a consciousness of the herstorical lessons learned from our foremothers' successes and mistakes. It's applying radical feminism that is inclusive of all women in contemporary patriarchal times, while reminding each other to laugh, be sexy, and re-develop community based on inclusiveness and love.
