Panel at NYU: What is the Agenda of Hip-Hop Theater?

Since at least the 1990s, artists have been making work that combines

theater. In this roundtable and community dialogue, key artists and

in the Hip-Hop theater movement will discuss how they have come to
create work
that is called Hip-Hop theater, their experiences programming and
producing Hip-Hop theater at arts institutions, their vision for the future of the
movement,
and their thoughts for the current generation of Hip-Hop theater
artists and
artists wanting to create their own revolutionary brand of work.

In partnership with the U. S. Department of State and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Hip-Hop Theater Festival hosted six arts-presenters, participating in the Global Cultural Initiative. The participating presenters were from South Africa, Malaysia, and Morocco.

The goal of this program is to energize the work of emerging international artists in their own country by bringing them to the United States and providing them with informative experiences in their arts discipline, exposure to the creation of art, and opportunities to develop relationships with U.S. arts professionals.

AUTUMN'S EYES on DVD

yes

AUTUMN'S EYES is a compelling documentary about a 3-year-old girl who tries to navigate through the harsh reality of severe poverty, her teenage mother's incarceration and looming foster care. Charming, obedient, and unable to fully comprehend the severity of her environment, Autumn is shielded from her own reality. Caught between the innocence of childhood and the growing necessity to be an adult, she represents hope to a family of women caught in the cyclical web of abuse, incarceration and poverty. Autumn's Eyes captures this impressionable time in this child's life, and ask the greater question: is there truly hope for a child growing up in these circumstances? Through the perspective of a little girl, Autumn's Eyes explores this perilous state of hope.

"Mendoza and Noble's fine personal documentary looks at three generations of women in poverty from the perspective of Autumn Collier, a clever and observant 3-year-old girl in Jersey City. It is at heart a kind and sensitively filmed story of a little girl longing to reunite with her mother, and vice versa."
